ICI with donor sperm (self-insemination)
Intracervical Insemination (ICI) with donor sperm is the simplest way to achieve pregnancy through fertility treatment. The donor sperm is placed near the cervix using a small syringe. The insemination is performed by you or your partner, making it a popular and low-cost option for those looking to conceive without medical intervention. ICI is less invasive than other fertility treatments and can be a more private, comfortable option. No medication is used.
Who is ICI with donor sperm relevant for?
- Individuals and couples looking for a low-intervention option: If you want to try conceiving without clinical procedures, ICI allows you to perform the insemination yourself in a private and more relaxed environment.
- Women with no known fertility issues: If the person attempting to become pregnant has no known fertility issues, ICI can be an effective option for achieving pregnancy.

IUI with donor sperm
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) with donor sperm is a widely used fertility treatment where donor sperm is placed directly into the uterus during ovulation. This procedure helps the sperm reach the egg, increasing the chances of conception. IUI is relatively simple and non-invasive and is performed by an experienced healthcare professional. For some, the chances of achieving a pregnancy will be higher with a hormone stimulation to help regulate the egg production and/or the time of ovulation.
Who is IUI with donor sperm relevant for?
- Single women or same-sex couples: The best candidates for IUI are young women in need of donor sperm but with healthy female reproductive systems (fallopian tubes). If no fertility issues are suspected, your chances of getting pregnant from IUI with donor sperm are good.
- Couples with male infertility issues: If a male partner has low sperm count, poor motility, or other fertility challenges, IUI with donor sperm can be an effective solution.

IVF with donor sperm
IVF with donor sperm consists of several steps. First, fertility medication is used to stimulate egg production and increase the number of mature eggs. The eggs are monitored through ultrasound scans before being retrieved and fertilised at Cryos Clinic. The fertilised embryos are frozen and used for embryo transfer in a later cycle. The fertilisation process can be done using IVF or ICSI. Our experienced staff will advise you on the recommended process.
Who is IVF with donor sperm relevant for?
- Low ovarian reserve: IVF is often recommended for women with low ovarian reserve, as it improves chances of success.
- Women with blocked fallopian tubes or other fertility issues: IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes, making it an effective option for women with tubal issues or other conditions affecting natural conception.
- Individuals and couples with several unsuccessful ICI or IUI attempts: If previous IUI or ICI attempts have been unsuccessful, IVF with donor sperm can offer a higher-success method.

Donor egg treatment
In donor egg treatment, eggs from a donor are fertilised with sperm in our lab, and the resulting embryo is then transferred to the uterus of the intended mother. The sperm is provided by you or your partner, and depending on your situation, the fertilisation process can be done using either IVF or ICSI methods.
Before you can begin treatment, you or your partner must create a sperm deposit to ensure that you have enough sperm for the treatment process.
In general, there is no waiting time for treatment with donor eggs. Our egg donors are, however, marked as 'Upon Request', which indicates that the egg donation process will only commence when you have chosen the donor and ordered an egg donation treatment. Follow the link to read more about how to order donor eggs.
Who is donor egg treatment relevant for?
- Women with poor egg quality: If your own eggs are not suitable for conception, perhaps due to medical conditions that have affected fertility, age-related decrease in egg quality, or surgery on the ovaries, donor eggs provide a good alternative for achieving pregnancy.
- Women with genetic conditions: If you are at risk of passing on genetic conditions to a child, you may consider using donor eggs instead of your own eggs.
- Individuals and couples with several unsuccessful fertility treatments: If other fertility treatments with your own eggs have been unsuccessful, using donor eggs may increase the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Double donation
Double donation involves using both donor eggs and donor sperm to achieve pregnancy through advanced fertility treatment. In this process, donor eggs are fertilised with donor sperm in our lab. The resulting embryos can then be transferred one at the time into the intended mother’s uterus. This treatment type involves medication to prepare the uterus for pregnancy.
In general, there is no waiting time for treatment with donor eggs. Our egg donors are, however, marked as 'Upon Request', which indicates that the egg donation process will only commence when you have chosen the donor and ordered an egg donation treatment.
Who is double donation relevant for?
- Couples with combined fertility challenges: For couples struggling with both male and female infertility, or if all previous treatments have failed, double donation may be a solution.
- Single women with severe fertility issues: If you are using a sperm donor and have no eggs suitable for conception, e.g. due to age, medical conditions, or genetic concerns, double donation is necessary to achieve pregnancy.
